Tuesday Luz Escamilla and the other mayoral candidates took part in a public forum on issues facing Salt Lake City's Muslim community. The event was hosted at Salt Lake community College's South City campus by the Emerald Project, a Utah-based nonprofit focused on combating Islamophobia.
Of all the candidates, Luz was able to speak from experience on discrimination on different levels. “I have experienced hate based on my race, ethnicity, gender and national origin,” Luz explained and concluded that: “representation does matter.”
If elected, Luz would be Salt Lake City's first woman of color, first Latina, and first immigrant mayor. Let's make history. Join Team Luz by signing up HERE.
